Budget rules
Budget comparison data is available on the accounting report Income Statement, budget comparison, and target accounting reports. Additionally, budget data is available in the Key Figures and Management Reporting views and graphical presentations.
Budget forecast rules in Controller
Each key figure to be budgeted has a corresponding account (usually a balance sheet account group). Budget cannot be manually recorded for key figures defined as corresponding accounts.
With the maintenance of budget forecast rules, you can define a forecast rule based on a distribution curve for entries resulting from the entered budget. For example, the change of accounts receivable to cash and bank receivables in future periods.
Balance sheet budget figures for future periods are based on the starting data of the most recent actual period, which is copied as the budget data for that period, and according to the forecast rules, the forecast values of the balance sheet key figures are shown. In the forecast period, the background of the timeline bar in the tracking view is pink.
New budget forecast rule
You can create a rule by clicking the add budget forecast rule link.
Name: Name of the forecast rule
Distribution curve: The distribution curve to be used. More details in the Distribution curve guide below.
Budget versions
In budgeting, it is possible to use the desired number of different budget versions. A budget version is not time-bound, meaning you can use the same budget version regardless of the fiscal year. However, in practice, it is good to separate the budgets of different years into their own versions.
New version - This function adds a new budget version.
Name - Descriptive name of the budget version
Set as default - Setting the default version of the budget. The default version is used, for example, in Key Figures views and various accounting reports where budget comparison is shown. Only one version can be set as default at a time.
Delete - Deletes the budget version. The default version cannot be deleted. It must first be changed to something else. All budget figures entered for the version will be deleted at the same time and cannot be restored.
Distribution curves
With the distribution curve function, you can enter the budget at once, divided into months according to the distribution curve. For example, to enter a sales budget, you can create a distribution curve that takes into account the season. The same distribution curves are also used in the Key Figures and Management Reporting function (forecast rules), as well as in the Accounting side in the purchase invoice accrual tool.
The system has a few ready-made distribution curves. These can be modified or new distribution curves can be added if needed.
New distribution curve
Give the distribution curve the desired name and the desired number of periods. If you create distribution curves that differ from the calendar year, for example, a quarterly distribution curve requires 12 periods to work, as does a semi-annual one. If you only establish four periods, the distribution will occur in the first four months of the period.
Above is an example of a distribution curve divided for the whole year. Percentage shares can be freely modified, but their total must always be 100%.
Distribute percentages evenly for the period when updating: Often percentages do not calculate evenly, for example, in the image above, the last month has slightly more percentage share. However, the total field must be 100. The button distributes the percentages evenly if this is possible
Below is an example of a quarterly distribution curve.
