Netvisor is an online service used with an Internet browser. Therefore, attention should be paid to the choice of browser. The most common browsers are free, and downloading and installing them is easy. Therefore, it is worth trying Netvisor with different browsers.
It is always advisable to use the latest version of the browser, especially for security reasons. Below is a list of Internet browsers supported by Visma Netvisor from the beginning of 2019 by operating system:
Windows:
- Google Chrome, latest version (recommended)
Firefox, latest version
- Microsoft Edge, latest version
- Opera, latest version
Mac:
- Google Chrome, latest version (recommended)
- Firefox, latest version
Internet browsers are evolving rapidly, and older browsers do not contain the technology required for up-to-date use. Do not use old browsers so that you can benefit from the user experience enabled by newer technology. The recommended browsers listed above take care of automatic updates to ensure you always have the best possible version.
We will discontinue support for outdated SSLv3, TLS1.0, and TLS1.1 encryption protocols starting March 15, 2021. Ensure smooth use of Netvisor by using a browser that supports the TLS1.2 protocol. By using the latest version of the browsers supported by Netvisor, you ensure the smooth operation of the service. More information about the change can be found in our Community article.
Netvisor is primarily designed to be used from a computer display. We test the functionality of interfaces on the most popular mobile devices, but note that interfaces are not adapted to the screen sizes of the smallest mobile devices. Use the most commonly needed mobile functionalities through mobile applications to ensure a better user experience.
Closing the browser and clearing the cache
Internet browsers store web page content and cookies in their cache. These are important, among other things, for maintaining the Netvisor user session. The browser retains this information, uses it while browsing pages, and sends cookies to the target server when opening pages. If you do not allow the browser to clear cookies and cache by closing all browser windows, old session data may accrue in the browser cache. In such cases, high-security sites like Netvisor may restrict page opening until outdated information has been removed from the browser.
Remove stored browser data when it is no longer needed to maintain your personal security and to delete page usage-related information from the browser.
Proceed as follows to ensure smooth browser operation when using Netvisor and other pages:
- When you finish browsing sites, remember to close all browser windows. This removes session-specific cookies.
- If possible, use Netvisor and other important sites in private mode (incognito mode in Chrome), where the browser does not, by default, save browsing data between sessions.
- If you encounter problems using or loading the site, manually clear the cache and cookies using the browser's tools. Proceed as follows:
- Follow the instructions for removing cookies from specific sites in Chrome, in Firefox, in Edge and in Safari.
- When removing site data, ensure that the removal is not time-restricted. Remove all data instead of, for example, only the last hour.
- Note that on most sites, removing cookies logs the user out of the service on that page. If you want to avoid logging out from other sites, clear the site data only from the desired site, i.e., login.netvisor.fi and suomi.netvisor.fi.
Client firewall restrictions
Netvisor is offered to the customer as a SaaS service, used from the client's web browsers. The service interface and API are open to the internet, and no separate IP addresses or openings are needed. Due to the scalability of services, Netvisor does not support a fixed external IP address range. Do not make address-specific restrictions on traffic to the service, as they are not supported or recommended. Please note that unnecessary traffic restrictions may cause service disruptions or failures.
If you still want to restrict traffic to Netvisor, you can do so at your own risk using FQDN restrictions. To ensure the service's operation, allow HTTPS traffic (TCP 443) to the following addresses:
- *.netvisor.fi
- snowplow.visma.com
- *.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com
Practical issues with browser usage
Loss of form data
Netvisor is always used with a secure connection (SSL). Browser security settings are usually strict by default, and therefore they do not allow returning to form data loaded over a secure connection using the back function. For this reason, the data you have entered on a form may disappear when you press the browser's "Back" button or the "Back" button on the page, and you must re-enter the data. This issue affects Firefox and older Internet Explorer browsers. This is how the browser operates for security reasons.
Use the Netvisor functionality that attempts to circumvent this issue by storing input form data in a temporary data store. The data can be displayed again when returning to the page during the same session. Note that this functionality does not yet cover the entire system.
Slow page loading
Using the application over the internet sometimes requires transferring large amounts of data. The speed of use is significantly affected by the available internet bandwidth and the browser used to display the data.
- Use a browser that renders pages before the entire data set has been transferred. Traditional Internet Explorer does not render even large tables until the end of the table is received. For example, when taking a large general ledger, it may seem that Netvisor does not respond for a long time, even though the transfer is being made in the background.
- Use Firefox and Opera browsers, which can display pages even if all the data has not yet been transferred. This allows you to browse and handle information before the entire report or other page is transferred, which speeds up basic usage.
Handling registry-type data
In traditional desktop programs, it is easy to handle registry-type data by opening multiple overlapping windows on the screen. Use your browser's features in Netvisor as follows:
- Open new windows or tabs from links in the system. All the latest browser software supports tabs.
- Group Netvisor pages using tabs. For example, use tabs to compare information, keep the desired customer's information in different windows while invoicing, or use another window as a checklist.
- Use tabs efficiently. Get to know your browser's features so that you can get the most out of tabs.
Note that multiple browser windows enhance usability but also bring problems. The same issues occur if the browser history is used actively.
- Avoid using old, unupdated views, as they may contain information that has already been changed or deleted.
- Update views in history as needed so that changes made are visible.
Double-clicking
Note the difference between the Windows desktop and the browser:
- Do not double-click links in Netvisor menus and pages. One click is enough to open links and buttons.
- Avoid double-clicking buttons and links, as this sends two requests to the server (for example, submitting a form twice).
Special functions
Use the special and quick functions built into browsers when browsing and using internet pages, especially if you enter a lot of information manually. Use these functions to make Netvisor usage more efficient.
Navigating input form fields
Move between Netvisor input form fields with shortcut keys as follows:
- Use the Tab key (tabulator, tab) to move between different input fields without using the mouse.
- Use the Shift + Tab combination to move backward between fields. Note that the Shift key can be used to reverse many other key combinations as well.
- Use the Tab key to select links and buttons and "click" them with the Enter key.
You can find more information about other shortcuts on the internet, for example, with the search terms "windows shortcuts".
Selecting data from a dropdown list
A company often has extensive registers in Netvisor, such as customer, vendor, and product registers. Use Netvisor search features and dropdown lists as follows:
- Invoice a customer through the customer search.
- Add and search products on the invoice using the product register search.
- Use dropdown lists when you need large amounts of information, such as customers, products, or a specification of accounts.
Make the use of dropdown lists more efficient depending on the browser:
- In Firefox and Opera, search for the desired item in the dropdown list by typing some of the first letters or numbers. This significantly speeds up the use of, for example, the chart of accounts.
- In other browsers and most Windows programs, move close to the desired item by typing the first letter of the desired information.
Searching for data on a page
Use the browser's search function to quickly search for information even in long reports. Press the Ctrl + F shortcut and type the word, number, or part of it you want to search for.
Mouse gestures
Use mouse gestures if your browser supports them. Mouse gestures are a new, innovative functionality in many browsers. They refer to small movement combinations made with the mouse to perform common commands, such as "Back", "Next", and "New window/tab".
- Use the mouse gestures that are standard in Opera.
- Install mouse gestures in Firefox as an extension.
- Use mouse gestures as a power user to speed up and facilitate internet browsing.
