This help article explains how to use EAN codes for product identification and storage in Netvisor. EAN codes help with automatic product identification in transaction handling, which reduces user errors.
You can use an EAN code and a barcode reader in Netvisor in the following situations:
- product registry product search
- sales offer
- sales order
- sales invoice
- purchase order
- stock transaction

EAN code
The EAN code is a numerical series used for product identification.
You can save the barcode on the product card as follows:
- Go to the product card.
- Select the EAN code field by clicking the field.
- Read the barcode with the barcode reader, after which the numerical series is automatically filled into the field.
In Netvisor, the barcode is a feature of extended product management that can be utilized in transaction handling with real-time ajax search as follows:
- product registry product search
- sales offer
- sales order
- sales invoice
- purchase order
- stock transaction
The system searches for the correct product name based on the barcode saved on the product card when you read the code with a barcode reader for the transaction.
After this, you only need to confirm the product on the transaction row.
This feature prevents user errors so that incorrect product names are not accidentally brought to the transaction in manual search. For example, creating sales dispatches is done without errors using barcodes when handling a larger product registry or when product names are very similar, such as common model variations.
Barcode standards supported in Netvisor
Netvisor supports the following barcode standards in 1D format (drawn linearly):
- EAN8
- EAN13
- EAN13 + EAN2
- EAN13 + EAN5
- Code 128
In 2D format (drawn as a matrix), the following is supported:
- QRCode
Using a barcode reader
The barcode reader should be connected to the workstation as an extension of the keyboard. This means that the functionality of the barcode reader does not depend on the compatibility of the Netvisor service, but on the support of the user's own workstation device for the barcode reader.
Saving a barcode when adding a new product
You can add a product and save the barcode, for example, as follows: select Products > New product from the menu.

The product card has two fields for barcodes:
- Primary
- Secondary

In transaction handling, the product can be searched with either code, but the code saved in the primary field is always printed on the stock order printout.
Saving a barcode for an existing product
You can save a barcode for an existing product as follows:
- Select Products > Product listing.
- Search for the desired product.
- Select the update button.
- Go to the product card by clicking the product name.
- Open the Edit basic information tab on the product card.
- Save the barcode in the barcode field on the product card (primary or secondary).
Barcodes for an existing product can be found on the "Edit basic information" tab of the product card saved in the product registry.
