This guide covers the manufacturing entry, which refers to the assembly and production of products by combining storable sub products into a composite product. In the process, the stock quantities of sub products decrease as the composite product is recorded in stock. The manufacturing entry is made through the product listing by selecting the desired sub products, moving the products to the process basket and making the manufacturing entry. The guide also includes information on checking stock status and managing transaction types and prices.

Manufacturing entry
A manufacturing entry refers to the assembly or production of a product from sub products into a composite product. As an example, the product is a table that is manufactured from four legs and one tabletop. These products are in the product register as table leg and tabletop (sub products), but with a manufacturing entry they form the product table (composite product). A manufacturing entry requires extended product management.
When a sub product structure has been created for a storable composite product, manufacturing entries can be made so that the creation of stock transactions for the sub products is automated.
Note: Sub products are reduced in the manufacture of the composite product only when the composite product is marked as storable. The sub products must also be storable products. The construction of the composite product is covered in the Sub products and composite products guide.
Retrieving composite product from product listing
You can open the manufacturing entry view by selecting Products > Product register > Product listing.
The manufacturing entry is made via the process basket of the product listing. The product listing view shows the products, which you can filter and review before making the manufacturing entry.
Filter a suitable set of products to the product listing as follows:
- Use the page search function when you want to search for a specific product.
- Limit the product selection using the product group bar when you want to view the products of a specific product group.
- Remove non-composite products from the view by removing the tick from the “Show non-composite products” option in the “Show in listing” menu.

In the product listing, the composite product looks like this:

You can access the sub product diagram by clicking the so-called stick figure button after the product name.
When viewing the structure of the table from the sub product diagram, the view looks like this:

The sub product diagram shows the following information:
-
Structure:
Sub products that are linked to the composite product (in the example, table leg + tabletop).
Quantity, how many units of each sub product are linked (in the example, 4 pcs of table legs, 1 pc of tabletop). This is shown at the arrows. - Product names
- Price information
- Stock information
- The edges of the box for a storable product are shown in black. The box is red if there is not enough in stock or its status is zero or less.
- Manufacturable: how many composite products can be manufactured from the sub products.
- Manufacturing value: the average price of the sub products used in manufacturing. In the example, 4*1 + 5 = 9 €.
- Reserved: the number of products on sales orders.
- Incoming: the quantity coming to stock on purchase orders that has not yet been delivered.
- In the example, 1 pc of tabletop and 4 pcs of legs are used for the manufacture of one composite product. These create reducing stock transactions during the manufacturing entry.
Making a manufacturing entry
You can make a manufacturing entry for a composite product by selecting Products > Product register > Product listing > add products to process basket.
Manufacturing entries for composite products are made in the process basket of the product register. The manufacturing entry is based on first moving the desired products to the process basket and then selecting the manufacturing entry.
Proceed as follows:
- Select the desired composite products from the product listing.
- Move the selected products to the process basket.
- In the process basket, select “Perform for products” >> “manufacturing entries” as shown in the image below.

In the process basket, the stock status of the composite product is shown separately for each stock. The manufacturing entry can also be made for several stocks at once.
Enter the following information for the manufacturing entry:
- Manufactured quantity for each stock (in the example, 1 pc of the product to stock 1).
- The stock or stocks to which the composite product is recorded.

The transaction type of the manufacturing entry and the sub products can still be changed as desired. There is a separate help page for managing transaction types.

The purchase price of the composite product can also be considered. By default, the purchase price is retrieved from the sub products, in which case the purchase price of the composite product is the sum of the purchase prices of the sub products used.
If the selection is from the composite product, the price is retrieved from the purchase price field of the composite product. If the purchase price has been manually defined in this field, the same price is obtained through the manufacturing entry.

The stock of sub products can also be affected. By default, the selection is from the sub product, in which case the entry used for manufacturing reduces the stock of the sub products.
When the sub product does not have a default stock, products are taken from those stocks where this product is available. In this case, the same manufacturing entry may include an entry for this sub product from several stocks.
If FIFO handling is enabled in the company and the product does not have a default stock, products are taken from the stock where the oldest products are.
If there is not enough of the product in stock, the stock goes negative by the remaining amount without stock information.
If the selection is undefined, the manufacturing entry will not have a stock for the sub products from which the products are reduced.

When you have defined the details of the manufacturing entry, press the “Save changes” button. The system will then automatically make the correct stock entries, and in the user interface you are taken to the stock transaction of the manufacturing entry.

End result:
- The stock transaction is automatically saved.
- Stock balances change as follows:
- The composite product, i.e. the table, is added to stock by 1 pc.
- Tabletops are reduced from stock by 1 pc.
- Table legs are reduced from stock by 4 pcs.
