This guide explains how to add features to a product in Netvisor. Features describe different aspects of a product, such as color or size, and are useful in managing different models and prices. The guide provides basic information about features, the values assigned to them, and the value sets formed from these values.

Features
Features are data that describe a product. For example, a product could be a shelf that is 40cm high and 30cm deep, available in two widths and two colors, gray and brown.
For the shelves above, you can create features such as:
- Width
- Color
- (Height)
- (Depth)
Different features can be defined for a product, and different values for these features. From these different combinations, different models of the product are formed (for example, different size or color of the same product).
Values
Values are data assigned to a feature. For example, the color feature can have values such as red, blue, yellow, brown, gray, etc. Different price coefficients and changes can be set for values, allowing the prices of the resulting models to vary based on the impact of different values.
For the furniture features above, you can assign values such as:
Width (feature)
- values: 100cm and 50cm
Color (feature)
- values: brown and gray
(Height) (feature)
- value: 40cm
(Depth) (feature)
- value: 30cm
What if a feature has only 1 value?
Depth and height are the same for all products, so they do not affect the number of models. However, a separate feature can be created for this information (depth and height), as these features and their values can be used as search criteria, for example.
Value sets
If a feature has many values, they can be grouped into smaller, more manageable sets. For example, centimeter and inch sizes are both sizes, but they can be divided into two sets based on type. This way, you can easily select only inch sizes as size options for a product (or, for example, children's or adult sizes). The same value can appear in multiple value sets.
Creating a new feature
You can open feature management by selecting Products > Product listing > Settings > Features.
Create a new feature as follows:
- Select "add new feature".
- Enter the name of the feature.
- Save the feature.
After this, you can also enter the feature name in English or Swedish.
You can also access feature creation directly from the product if a suitable feature is not already available. In that case, open the product’s Features and models tab and select "Add feature to product". Adding a feature is done in the same way as shown in the images above.
The name of the feature can be edited, and the feature can also be deleted. Deletion is possible even if the feature is in use on a product. Features and their values have language versioning. A feature can be managed and viewed in one language at a time, and the language can be changed from the top of the page.
Creating values for a feature
To create values, the feature must be established. Proceed as follows:
- First select the desired existing feature in feature management.
- Select "Add new value to feature".
- Add the desired values (in the example, the colors gray and brown are added).
- Save the values.
Now the feature color has 2 values, gray and brown. The name of the value can be edited using the pencil and notepad button, and the value can be deleted using the red cross. If the value belongs to value sets, it will also be removed from them.
Creating value sets from values
Value sets are smaller subsets saved from the values of features. Values can be saved into smaller sets, making it easy to set desired values for a product with one selection.
Create a value set as follows:
- Select the desired values from the feature’s value list by checking the selection box in front of them.
- Give the value set a name.
- Save the value set.
The value set is visible in feature management below the feature name. The value set also shows how many values it contains. For example, from the image above, you would get a value set with 2 values.
Adding a new value to an existing value set
To add a new value to an existing value set, there must be a created value that has not yet been added to the existing value set. In the example below, a new value "Black" has been created and is added to the existing value set "product colors".
The name of the value set can be edited, and the desired value can be removed from the specific value set. This does not remove the actual value. If the entire value set is deleted, the actual values do not disappear.
The created value set is visible in the product models' features under the feature.
Adding a feature to a product
Once features have been created, they can be selected for use on a product. You can add features to a product by selecting Products > Product listing > open product > Features and models tab.
Add a feature to the product as follows:
- Select the "Add feature" link.
- Select how you want to add the feature:
- Feature with all values: adds the feature to the product and lists all values created for the feature.
- Feature and 1 value:
- Adds only one new previously created value to the product.
- If the feature of the value is not on the product, the function also adds the feature of the value to the product.
- If the product is available, for example, only in black, you can select one value "black" for the product through this option.
- Ready value set:
- Adds the feature to the product and lists only the values belonging to the selected value set.
- If the feature is already on the product, the values of the selected value set are listed in addition to other values. Duplicate values are only considered once, so there is no duplication.
Add new feature: If the desired feature or its value is not found, a new feature can be created through the link at the bottom of the function. If the feature already exists but does not have the desired value, you can access value editing from the name of the feature selected for the product.
Added features
Features added to the product are displayed as shown below. In the example, the previously created feature "color" was added to the product. The box shows the values selected for use on the product.
Deletion: If the feature has not yet been used in model formation, it can be deleted from the box using the red cross. If any value of the feature is already in use on an existing product model, the feature cannot be deleted from the product (the delete cross is not visible).
Setting price coefficient / price change
Different price-affecting coefficients and data can be assigned to the values of features used on the product, which are used to form the model prices when creating models. More information on this topic can be found in the Price management guide. The management of product-specific price changes for values is done in the same view where the values used on the product are selected. This function can be accessed from the edit icon (pencil and notepad button) of the feature box.
If we continue using the feature color as an example, we can define, for instance, the following:
- a coefficient of 1.2 for the black color (the product's base price is multiplied by this coefficient)
- no price impact for the gray color (the price is the product's sales price)
- a price change of -1 for the brown color (the price becomes the product's sales price - €1)
Hide feature: Hides the specific features, and they are not selectable.
Product main feature: The selected feature can be set as the main feature for the product. This information is used in reporting, where the possible main feature is used to present data by grouping models according to the selected feature.
Create models from selected
Once the necessary features have been selected for the product and the correct values have been chosen for them (and the desired price changes and coefficients have been assigned to the values if necessary), different models can be formed for the product using the values. More information about models can be found in the Model variations guide.
Form models from selected as follows:
- Select the desired rows from the list of features and values.
- Press "create models from selected".
This creates the respective models below. The product code comes first, and the model code follows after a / symbol. The name also starts with the product name, followed by the model name.
Price information is displayed below. The product's default price is €10, so the final price is what was defined above.
Stock information is displayed if stock management is in use and the product is a stockable product. The Edit button allows you to edit the model. The Delete button allows you to delete the row, i.e., the model.
Frequently asked questions
Question: What are features and what are they used for?
Answer: Features are data that describe a product, such as color, width, height or depth. They are used to control how different models and prices are formed for the same product.
Question: What is the difference between a value and a value set?
Answer: A value is an individual piece of information for a feature, for example the value "gray" for the color feature. A value set is a smaller subset composed of several values, which can be taken into use for a product with a single selection.
Question: Can I create a feature directly from the product?
Answer: Yes. On the product’s Features and models tab, you can select "Add feature to product" and create a new feature if a suitable feature is not already available.
Question: Can I delete a feature from a product if it has been used in models?
Answer: No. If any value of the feature is in use on an existing model, the feature cannot be deleted from the product, and the delete cross is not visible.
Question: How do price coefficients and price changes affect model prices?
Answer: Price coefficients and changes are set for the values of a feature. When models are created, these coefficients and changes are applied to the product’s base price, so that different combinations of values result in models with different prices.
Question: How are models created from selected values?
Answer: After you have selected features and their values for the product, select the desired rows and press "create models from selected". The system creates model rows from the selected values, each with its own code, name, price and stock information.
